Ubuntu Village of Life has recently launched the Access Microscholarship program also known as  «ACCESS». While we are waiting for the official opening ceremony of the program which is planned in May 2024, the first class took place Saturday April 13, 2024 at UVL Bururi American corner located on Muyange-Kavumu hill, Mugamba Commune and Bururi Province.

The program counts a total number of 25 students and 5 placed on the waiting list. All the 30 students should attend classes at least the 3 first months in order to facilitate replacements in case of dropouts according to the regulations set by the program coordination. The first class was attended by a total number of 28 students, while only one was absent for the second class that took place on the following Saturday. The first class started at around 9.30. Students assume that they had been enough sensitized on the program and its requirements including time strictness by the coordinator before starting, but reveal that rain and long distances are the main causes of being late.

Before starting the first lesson, the coordinator reminded the students about the program objectives rules, objectives and what the provider and the US embassy as financial partner are waiting for as result at the end of training. He insisted that Access students should distinguish themselves from other ordinary students by their leadership characteristics as they are being trained to serve as an example in leadership and problem solving, making them the future game changers of the nation and the world.

The class started with distribution of learning materials which were composed of «Interchange 5th Edition» student books and workbooks, a register, a notebook and a pen. Each students gets his or her own materials which they take home and will remain theirs for the whole period of the training and even after the program has finished.

Let’s mention that Access program activities are going to run each Saturday from 8.00 am to 12.30 pm for after school instructions and enhancement activities; and will take place offsite for intensive sessions and some topics of enhancement activities. A program coordinator, a teacher, a teacher assistant and an accountant are working in a team to make sure the program runs smoothly.
