After two months of its opening, the Ubuntu medical clinic in Mugamba in Bururi province in southern Burundi was equipped on Saturday February 6, 2021 with a pavillion that houses consultation and treatment services for pregnant women. The inauguration of this infrastructure was coupled with the free prenatal consultation campaign for pregnant women in Mugamba commune and surrounding communes.

Speaking on this occasion, the head of the Ubuntu medical clinic Dr Richard Ndayishimiye specified that this infrastructure will increase the hospitalization capacity and offer quality services in comfort:

“We started activities with the problem of insufficient infrastructure. With the inauguration of this building, this challenge is on the way to being resolved and the cases that were referred to Matana hospital will henceforth be reduced. It is therefore a great advantage for the population and it is also a relief for the staff who will be able to provide quality services in good condition ”he explains.

According to Dr Richard Ndayishimiye, more than 1000 people have already made their consultations at this medical clinic.

On the same occasion, the NGO “Village Ubuntu Life”, which initiated the project, has offered this Clinic a donation of equipment consisting of 15 hospital beds and 15 mattresses.

A highly appreciated prenatal consultation campaign

Coupled with the inauguration of this building, the free prenatal consultation including free ultrasound services, prenatal check ups campaign was greatly appreciated by pregnant women beneficiaries.

“For me, it is a feeling of gratitude and satisfaction” testifies Mrs. Alice Ndayikeje who had come for her consultation. “The campaign allowed me to know the state of my pregnancy for free, whereas I would have to pay a lot of money if I went as usual to MATANA hospital or to Ijenda hospital”, continues -she.

The same feeling of satisfaction was also expressed by Mrs. Evangiline Niyonzima who had just done the consultation for her first pregnancy at 27 years old.

“Before, it was difficult to do the recommended number of prenatal consultations; but today it is possible. We thank the authors for this good initiative and ask them to continue looking for other equipment,”she concludes.

The same goes for Mrs. Niyorukundo Evelyne, 36 years old, in consultation for her 8th pregnancy with five living children, she says that the miscarriages she had are consecutive to the difficulties of access to prenatal consultation services. .
